It's been forever since I've posted anything on LiveJournal and I have no idea what to post now. Where to start...
I work in retail now. It's "ok" but nothing that I'm too thrilled about. The job is just barely good enough that I show up on time and make a reasonable** effort.
**(reasonable is defined as being directly proportionate to the low level of pay and high level of ASSness that others display) |

Wow. A whole summer has gone by and I've not even updated this. Well, here it goes just a bit.
I've moved my stuff out of Sac and into an apartment in Turlock. It was a LOT of stuff but everything fits in the new place. The undertaking wasn't small, so I was lucky to have Jaime, the parents, and a uhaul.
Jaime and I went to the fair last night. The weather was cool and comfortable and the crowd small(ish). We saw all the vendors, ate greasy junk food, and finished the night off on the large ferris wheel (whose name is in homage to its creator, George Washington Gale Ferris Jr). It was a nice date night.
School starts next week. I'm excited and not too anxious at all. The classes are likely to be tough, but w/o a fulltime job it shouldn't be too horrible.
Toy update: The car still has a CHECK ENGINE light illuminated. I've spent the whole summer killing the environment w/ a leaking emissions system. The motorcycle went into the shop this week to be rejetted. It's way too lean from the factory and take too long to warm up. I signed a contract w/ Cingular and had a new phone shipped to me. I'm switching cause Jaime has Cingular and calls to her s/b free. It's going to be nice to shed this old green/black screen CDMA crappola phone for a nice and shiny quadband GSM Treo650. *drool.
Jaime moved into her condo this past weekend. We were worried that her bedroom wouldn't be large enough to accomidate her stuff and while the closet is still small the rest of the stuff seemed to fit a-ok. It's a really nice place with lots of sunlight in the kitchen. The biggest bonus though would have to be the laundry machine. She's got a dryer and washer. As Mr Dynamite would say, "LUCKY". |

In Sacramento it's hot. Today must be 100+. Yesterday it was only slightly less and the idiot in me thought that jogging would be fun. Retard.
I took a run up Howe Ave to Arden and then back down the other side of Howe. It's been a while since I've excercised so the soreness was expected. Strangely though, it's not my legs... it's my shoulders. How does that happen?
Jaime sent me a cute card. It's a picture of a lonely cat looking at an empty fish bowl. My brain is so totally fried today that I started looking at the empty fish bowl and wondered, "Gee. How did they get a picture of an empty fishbowl? That's an awefully good photoshop job to clone out the fish." DUH. HELLO MCFLY. It's just an empty fish bowl. No magic.
I miss her a lot. It's lonely w/o her. =( |

Jaime left for Florence Italy. I felt helpless at the airport as she left through the security gates and into the busy bustle of the boarding gates. The next three weeks are going to be really hard and I knew that best as we said our goodbyes.
I miss you hun. That cats miss you too. (They both slept at my feet last night.)
Take care of yourself. |

It was tough to wake up this morning. I hit the snooze till the last couple minutes possible and then threw myself together.
Yes, literally I threw myself together. I woke up and my arm was a good three feet from my body. The damn cats had gnawed it off again in the feverishly hot summer night. I sat up and from the foot of the bed I picked the stub up. Throwing it with my good arm the stub bounced off of the adjacent wall and came right back at me. As luck would have it the arm fell right back into the socket. The cats cursed my most excellent aim. It's ok though. They're just being petty because it's summer, they have more body hair and I control the air conditioning.
My car was being snotty the other day. Maybe it's a European thing? It flashed the "Check Engine" light which totally freaked me out. Normally mundane warnings are spelled out in easy to understand language. If the gas cap is loose it will say "tighten fuel cap". If the coolant level is low it will read "check coolant level". "Check Engine" though was cryptic and seemly demanded professional attention. DAMN.
Thank GAWD SAABs are cult cars. I got on to www.saabnet.com and sure enough tons of others had the same issue. Evidently SAABs are pansies over emissions. The smallest deviance or emissions fluke and the computer freaks out and flashes a damningly harsh "Check Engine" signal. I disconnected the battery and reset the computer to see if it was a fluke as noted on the boards or something reoccurring.
Nothing reoccurring. Hopefully that means that I'm in the clear. Awesome...
Audi had a promotion going. You test drive a new car (the A3) and they give you 33 free itunes in return for your. I love driving other cars so of course I was all over that.
The 2.0L is a new 4 banger and promised to VW as well. It was smooth and turbo lag was non existent. Nice car. Clean interior. Smart suspension. It made me think how spongy my ride is in the 9-5. That's ok though because I'll be due for replacing part of that soon and that will clean things up nicely. Eibach springs and Koni struts would do just fine.
Back to the Audi: The A3 had ZERO rear leg space. I'm a freak though at 6'4", but still...
Oh! Speaking of freaks, the salesman was a freak. He was a NAZI to be specific. (This is the part that's really worth retelling.)
After the drive I parked the car and we made idle chit chat. We talked about SAAB taking parts from other GM divisions (specifically the Epsilon platform) and also how Audi would be sharing its brilliant new 2 liter with VW. From that discourse he began, "Yeah, I think when SAAB sold to GM somehow they lost something special and were in a way diluted. The same can be said of Volvo when it sold to Ford. At least with Audi it's a German car with German parts built in Germany. It's completely untainted and that says something important. HILE HITLER!"
Ok, ok. So I added the Hitler part, but toward the end of the test run it was definitely the vibe that I was getting from him. Anyway, the man made the German statement and I found myself nervously fumble and mention my mom owned a German engineered Benz. It was a VERY awkward moment. |

It's been a long time since I've posted so it's a bit daunting to remember everything that's ocurred.
I joined myspace, deleted my profile in frustration, and then rejoined. The creation tools (or lack thereof) were pissing me off. I would enter HTML code in the appropriate spots and the page would break. Maybe I was missing something, but I have no idea what. The result is a compromise. It's not how I wanted it to look, but each time I pushed it would just break the page. (specifically it would break the hyperlinks and display the code as page text)
My Myspace Profile
My le birthday was on the 30th. That was fun. Jaime appointed a time and I met her at her apartment. Waiting there was my sis. The three of us piled into Jaime's red Cavalier and went to the movie theater. There we saw Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Frank also came up and suprised me which was cool of him to do.
The next day we drove down to Paramount's Great America on Jaime's treat. She really spoils me. Thanks hun. =)
Sac State is being difficult about letting me back in after my academic dismissal. I'm frustrated and ready to move on elsewhere. Stanislaus is on the menu. Jaime and I are going this coming weekend to scope out the apartments in the area. I spoke with my boss this morning and she mentioned that I might be able to transfer to our sister company and work part time for either Title or Customer Service. Either would be great.
I'm also considering going back to a CS major just for the financial freedom it would provide. I've been thinking about it and there are things that I want that I would not be able to afford with an English degree. Just some things offhand...
Travel.
- Fly to Spain, England and Italy.
- Drive the Nurburg trial in Germany.
- Ride a cross sport motorcycle through the jungles, hills, and plains of South America... a support convoy just out of sight.
- See Hong Kong for the first time.
- See Akihabara, Tokyo for the second.
Live
- Buy a large house on the east coast connected to the ocean.
- Build a boat.
- Sail the east coast, the Florida keys, and the Panama Canal.
- Have a family
Ok, enough of the Veruca Salt. |

Jaime and I are planning to head down to Watsonville this weekend to be immunized against all that the third world filth has to offer. I am less than enthused and known to pass out with a needle in my arm. It makes me woozy just thinking about it. There's something uncomfortable about the thought of a needle piercing skin and muscle and feeling the pressure of a foreign substance pump into the veins. Oh yeah, and I hate the thought/sight of blood.
On the plus side it's a weekend to relax and mope about the place. Jaime's parents will be down in the bay at the same time so hopefully something can be planned or done on the spur of the moment. Eh, whichever...
The summer is coming and that means my cell phone contract will have expired. "FINALLY" is all that I can say. Verizon is a fine carrier, but Jaime has ATT/Cingular and by switching we'll enjoy free calls between the two of us. Another bonus is a new phone. My phone right now is several years old. Think green illuminated tissue box and you probably have a good idea of what it's like.
When I switch to ATT/Cingular I DON'T want a contract. This is of benefit because it means that I'm not limited to their selection of phones. I can buy a phone that conforms to the global GSM standard with preference for ATT/Cingular's 850/1900 frequency use.
With a new phone I'd be able to interface it wirelessly with my car using bluetooth. (the car's already equipped to accept this) So, driving down the road I can have my phone in my pocket and rather than the phone in my pocket ring, the car will mute the radio, alert me of the call, and then allow me to use the car's mics and speakers to conduct the call. Very cool and very handsfree. The new phones can also be voice controlled. That means driving down the road I could dictate a number to be dialed and ask the phone (wirelessly interfaced through the car) to dial that spoken number. This is REALLY cool stuff. (New Mercedes S class models do this)
With a new phone I'd also be able to trash my cable internet bill because Cingular now offers broadband. For $49.99 a month the phone becomes a wireless router and serves from 115 to 135 k per second. That's not nearly as fast as Comcast Cable, but the portability is awesome. Jaime could be in the car using her Powerbook and surf the net wirelessly. Neato Speedo.
Ok, enough tech drool here. Back to work. |

Excerpts by Senator Clinton directed to her homeboys at a Kaiser meeting
http://clinton.senate.gov/~clinton/speeches/2005314533.html
"I've heard is about some of the video games, particularly Grand Theft
Auto, which has so many demeaning messages about women and so
encourages violent imagination and activities and it scares parents..."
"...desensitization over years and years and years. It's getting in your mind that it's okay to diss people
because they're women or they're a different color or from a different
place, that it's okay to somehow to be part of a youth culture that
defines itself as being very aggressive in protecting its turf. And we
know that for many children, especially growing up in difficult
circumstances, it's hard enough anyway. You know, they're trying to
make it against the odds to begin with."
